The healing power of essential oils

What are essential oils?

An essential oil is a liquid that is distilled from leaves, stems, flowers, bark roots and other elements of a plant.  They contain a number of healthful and healing quallities and are used in aromatherapy wherein the oils are carefully inhaled, enter the lungs and are absorbed into the bloodstream.

What are some types of essential oils?

Essential oils are good for a number of health comoplaints as well as for beauty and moisturizing the hair and skin.  Below is a list of a few of the commonly used oils.

Sage - Can stimulate hair growth, is also a diuretic and astringent.
Bergamot - Is good for acne, colds, boils, sore throat and mouth infections.
Jojoba - is a great moisturizer for hair and skin.
Juniper - is an antiseptic, diuretic and is very good for gas.
Grapeseed - Great conditioner for hair and skin.  Also lowers cholesterol.

The list is endless.  The benefits of essential oils can be gained through aromatherapy and through lotions, hair creams. 

A final and important word of caution:  avoid light and heat when storing.
