Seven Common Foods that Could be Making You Sick

I can remember being told that the older you get, the less you could tolerate many foods. It seems that no truer words were spoken.  However, the average consumer may not even be aware of the degree to which our food is being tampered with.  Many experts believe that  new food growing technological advances could be indeed making us sick.

This post will examine seven foods to be wary of when you consume them.


Genetically Modified Foods are foods that have been genetically altered by either inserting or deleting a gene to promote pest and herbicide resistance.  Such crops that are GMO include sugar beets, corn and tomatoes.  The effects on humans of such foods is unknown. And, experts paint a dire picture of the problem, adding that such foods could promote organ failure, endocrine disorders and developmental problems.


Bisphenol A is an endocrine disruptor, which means that it disrupts the functioning of the endocrine system.  This can cause tumors, birth defects and developmental disability.

Unfortunately, the linings of tin cans contain this chemical. Vegetables, such as tomatoes, which are highly acidic, cause BPA to be released into the food.

The solution is to avoid canned vegetables and to use locally gown fresh fruits and vegetables. As a last option, frozen is also preferable to canned.

Corn Fed Beef

Most people know that cows eat grass.  But, unfortunately, farmers today feed their cows corn and soybeans, which fatten them up faster for slaughter.  So, health and nutrition are being substituted for cash profits.

A recent study conducted by the USDA showed that grass-fed beef is higher in beta-carotene, vitamin E, omega-3s, conjugated linoleic acid, calcium, magnesium and potassium.  It is also lower in inflammation promoting omega-6s.

The solution is to buy grass fed beef.

Microwave Popcorn

Chemicals in the bag lining of that scrumptious popcorn called perfluuorooctanoic acid (PFOA) are linked to infertility in humans.  In animal testing they have been linked to liver, testicular and pancreatic cancer.

The remedy is to avoid microwave popcorn.  Opt for the healthful hot-air popcorn and just apply your own seasonings.

Farmed Salmon

It is amazing the things that God given foods are fed in the name of profits. Salmon are fed artificial foods such as soy, poultry litter and hydrolyzed chicken feathers to keep the feed costs low, and to maximize profits.  As a result, farmed salmon is lower in vitamin D and high in many cancer causing contaminants .  There are also high levels of antibiotics and pesticides in these fish.

The solution is to eat wild-caught salmon.

Milk with  Artificial Hormones

Milk producers treat their diary cattle with recombinant bovine growth hormone to boost milk products.   But, this hormone (rBGH), also leads to infections and pus in the milk. It also leads to higher levels of a hormone called insulin-like growth factor in milk.  In humans, this can contribute to breasts, prostate and colon cancer.

The solution is to seek rBGH and rBGST free milk; and, milk without artificial hormones.

 Conventional Apples

Apples are frequently sprayed with dangerous pesticides. This pesticides have been linked to many diseases including cancer.

To avoid this problem, buy organic.  Wash and peel all fruits - the conventional ones, before eating it.
