Is there a Link between Breast Cancer and Alcohol Use

BrustImage via Wikipedia
Latest studies from the JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) show that women who drink three times or more per week increase the risk for breast cancer.  The surprising information is that only a few drinks was enough to raise the risk.

According to the JAMA study, 105, 986 women were studied.  These women were part of the Nurses' Health Study.  They were followed from the year 1980 until 2008 and were assessed eight times during this time period. Women who drank 3 to 6 drinks per week had a 15% increased chance of breast cancer.  This was so regardless of the point in life that the woman consumed alcohol, although this fact is not completely understood.

During the follow up period. there were 7690 new cases of invasive breast cancer discovered.
