Black Licorice and your Blood Pressure

Candy lovers beware.  Here's is one more reason to be moderate in the consumption of certain types of candy.

According to the FDA, people 40 and older should limit the amount of black licorice candy consumed. Researchers say that if you eat more than two ounces of the candy everyday for two weeks, it could cause the potassium levels in your body to drop.   (Potassium is important in the body for regulation of heart rhythm and blood pressure.  Too much or too little can be lethal.) This is due to the presence of glycyrrhetinic acid in the licorice.

The warning is being sounded due to the coming holidays and the tendency to eat more sweets than usual.
