The ANDI Score was developed by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of "Eat right America."  The ANDI Score is a food rating system that is being utilized  by Whole Food Markets.  It stands for Aggregate Nutrient Density Index.  This ANDI System is part of an initiative by Whole Food entitled "Health Starts Here."

The ANDI score shows the nutrient density of a food on a scale from 1 to 1000 based on nutrient content.  Objectives are to promote:

- Plant based diet
-Whole Foods and less processed foods
-Low Fat or at least more healthier choices in fats.

The ANDI scoring system analyzes nutrients such as: calcium, cartenoids, Iron, Magnesium, Niacin, Selenium and others. (see http://www.wholefoods.com/) The foud categories: refrigerated dairy, meat, fish and cheese. ANDI scores are calculated by evaluation a range of micronutrients including vitamins minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidant capacities.

The higher the concentration of these elements in a food per calories, the higher the score.  For instance, kale, a dark leafy green, scores 1000, while soda scores a 1.
