Practical tips for better health

Who couldn't use heath tips nowadays as we are assaulted with stress, unhealthy eating and the bad habits of everyday life?  Let's prepare our bodies for optimal performance by providing the things it needs: wholesome foods and water, plenty of rest and relaxation and stress reduction.

This article will present some easy tips to help you along the road to health and success.

Eat before you exercise

Exercising on an empty stomach won't give you the fuel you need for a good workout.  Provide your body with protein before exercise. Recommendations of experts include carbs and protein in a 3:1 ration and electrolytes for replacement during a strenous workout. Without adequate nutrition,  your body will draw protein from muscles.

Blood sugar control

Yogurt with extra vitamin D may help people with diabetes control their blood sugar.  Vitamin D seems to have a postive effect on individuals with type II diabetes.

Potassium and your blood pressure

Potassium is important in blood pressure control.  So, it is important to eat sufficient potassium containing foods such as bananas, oranges, and plantains.  This is particularly important if you taking diuretics which eliminate potassium along with excess fluids.

Colorectal cancer prevention

Blackberries have been researched and found that the high polyphenol content make them effective in destroying the free radicals that can damage the cell DNA and cause susceptibility to these cancers.
