What is the DASH Diet?

Okay, what is the DASH diet, another new fad and ineffectual way to lose weight? America is reeling over all the diets that have been on the market in the last four decades. And, what's worse the roller coaster effect is probably as bad as all the weight that people have lost and then regained.

Well, DASH stands for: "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension". The goal of this diet is to lower blood pressure. Participants are encouraged to eat wholesome and nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables whole griains, low-fat dairy products and lean cuts of meat. The dieters are encouraged to avoid sugar and read meat.

The diet is less restrictive than many from earlier days as it can make eating out a little less harrowing since it does not rule out entire food groups, which has never worked anyway. This helps turn the odds in the dieter's favor.

But, before starting any new diet, check with your health care professional.
